Volunteer

FFA is held together by an amazing team of nearly 100 volunteers who collect, sort and deliver donations, compile the bulk orders, liaise with the partners and with other organisations involved in tackling food insecurity, maintain communications and administer the charity. FFA couldn’t do it without the volunteers!

COLLECTORS

Street collection volunteers gather donations from neighbours/ friends/ local organisations and bring them up to the sorting hub at the Ardagh at 10.30 to 12.00 am any Tuesday.

SETTING UP

Setting-up volunteers set up the sorting hub at the Ardagh for sorting between 9.15 and 10.30am on Tuesdays with the sorting lead by clearing, cleaning and setting up the sorting space and equipment.

SORTING DUTY

Lead sorters duty starts at 9.15am when they help clear, clean and set up the sorting space. They then coordinate the sorting operations with the other sorters

Other sorters duty is from 10.15 am when collectors start bringing up donations until approx 1.15 pm after donations are collected for onward distribution and the room is cleared.

DRIVING DUTY

Drivers collect donations from the sorting hub at the Ardagh at 12.30 – 1.00 pm and take them to one of the 5 partners where they are helped to unload the donations.

SAINSBURYS COLLECTION

Collection is from the loading bay under Sainsbury’s at Clifton Down, between 9 and 10 am on Tuesday morning. Donations are then taken straight to the Ardagh.
Volunteers need to be aware the role involves lifting sometimes heavy bags, so anyone with injuries/painful joints should not volunteer.

DAIRY COLLECTION

Dairy collection volunteers collect the weekly dairy order from Tesco Golden Hill between 11.30am and midday on Tuesday and take it to the sorting hub at the Ardagh. They then help with sorting and allocating the dairy produce to the different partners
